Data and Mathematics, or Mathematics and Data

(04 Jul 2022–04 Jul 2022)

Public Lecture

Jointly organized with the Institute of Advanced Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

About the Talk:

In biology and many other fields, large amounts of data are produced for whose analysis and interpretation mathematical methods are required. In the beginning, this was usually done on the basis of simple physical models, but the increasing complexity of the data then required more abstract tools. Often, one no longer knows what to look for in the data, and we need new mathematical tools to find structure in such data. Thus, the role of mathematics is becoming ever more important.
