Special Colloquium Lecture by Wendelin Werner

(08 Jan 2025)

Description

Jointly organized with Department of Mathematics, NUS

This is an external engagement event of the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2025.

Overview

About the Speaker:
Professor Werner is the Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. Professor Werner was awarded a Fields Medal in 2006 “for his contributions to the development of stochastic Loewner evolution, the geometry of two-dimensional Brownian motion and conformal field theory” according to the International Mathematical Union who awards the medal.

Title:
From Fields to Random Geometric Structures and Back

Abstract:
Physical theories are often described in terms of fields and properties of their correlation functions. I will discuss several older and recent instances, where the understanding of related random underlying geometric objects and their properties turned out to be interesting and fruitful.
