The Institute for Mathematical Sciences (IMS) of the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites submissions of pre-proposals from researchers in the academia and industry in Singapore or overseas. The pre-proposals are for organizing thematic programs to be held wholly or partly at IMS with funding from the Institute. These programs, each lasting for one to three months, should have a well-defined theme or themes that are at the forefront of current research in an area of mathematical science or its applications, and should be of international interest as well as of interest or relevance to the local scientific community.
The Deadline for submitting a Program proposal is 31 May 2018.
Period of funding: from September 2020 onwards
To prepare a proposal, potential organizers should first select an innovative, challenging and interdisciplinary research theme on which to base their program.
Typically, a program should involve both international and local organizers. Pre-proposals on interdisciplinary programs in areas that interface with the mathematical sciences are welcome. Once the theme has been selected, the organizers should then decide what type of academic event, or events, would be most suitable for their program, and which international researchers they would like to invite to participate in the events.
A soft copy of the pre-proposal should be sent to the Director of the Institute at imsdir(AT)nus.edu.sg at least 2 years before the start of the proposed program. The exposition of a pre-proposal should be aimed at the non-specialist and will be evaluated by a panel. Pre-proposals on interdisciplinary programs should indicate how the program would benefit the intended audience with diverse backgrounds and facilitate research collaboration.
